Our latest hot-rolled steel CP800 HyperFlange is engineered not only to deliver freedom in designing your complex chassis parts, but also ensure outstanding manufacturing robustness.
Even steels with a high hole expansion capacity (HEC) can sometimes experience edge failures during forming if their fracture toughness is low. By evaluating fracture toughness, we have gained a deeper understanding of its relationship with the hole expansion ratio.
These insights have been crucial in developing HyperFlange, our advanced steel solution that combines high HEC with strong fracture toughness for superior edge ductility. With CP800 HyperFlange, you can reduce rejection rates, minimise edge cracks, and achieve better material flatness - leading to higher yields, fewer line stops, and improved press shop efficiency.

Design without limits
Our advanced high-strength steels combine high HEC and elongation for greater flexibility in forming complex shapes. With superior edge ductility, your designs move confidently from simulation to production. And thanks to their high strength, you can reduce weight through downgauging - without sacrificing rigidity.
Second-generation features
This second-generation edge-ductile steel also ticks all the additional boxes you would expect, making HyperFlange the preferred choice.
- Excellent fatigue behaviour
- Improved flatness
- Superb sheared-edge quality
- Good weldability
- Reliable corrosion resistance
70%
With a typical HEC value of 65% combined with an average A50 of 16%, the complex phase HR CP800-UC HyperFlange offers the freedom necessary for innovative chassis designs, even with deeper and wider flanges.
FRACTURE TOUGHNESS
2x
Its fracture toughness is twice that of our HR XPF800-UC. When combined with the higher hole expansion capacity, CP800 HyperFlange delivers superior edge ductility and manufacturing robustness.
tENSILE STRENGTH
800 MPa
The high ultimate tensile strength allows for 15% reduction in weight compared to a high-strength low-alloy S420MC, as shown in our simulations using a redesigned lower control arm. The 800 MPa strength sweet spot is ideal for most press shops, aligning with the capabilities of their machines and expertise, while avoiding the additional expenses associated with utilizing 1000 MPa.

Performance grade of choice for chassis, ladder frames, suspensions and seating
Tata Steel's hot-rolled CP800 HyperFlange offers the ideal balance between strength, formability, fracture toughness, sheared edge quality with high corrosion resistance. This superior edge-ductile steel is offered in the largest width and thickness range on the market.
Coating options
Engineered for downgauging - designed for protection.
HyperFlange enables lightweight designs without sacrificing in-service durability. For corrosion-critical applications, we are also developing a GI (galvanised) version.
Slitting blanking and further processing
HyperFlange steel can also be slit and cut to length via our service centre network. Its high strength, high formability, and processability are also of great value for tubular applications such as twist beams.
Improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions are key drivers in the development of lightweight chassis components. When used in a suspension part that moves rapidly, the lightweighting effect of a CP800 HyperFlange translates to even higher CO2 and energy savings per km driven.
The product’s superior edge ductility also translates to fewer part rejects, less material waste, and, overall, a lower CO2 footprint.
