TCCT®
TCCT (Trivalent Chromium-Coating Technology) is a sustainable, reliable replacement for conventional tin-free packaging steel (ECCS). Developed by Tata Steel, TCCT complies with European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals) regulations.
Food-safe and suitable for a wide range of packaging applications, TCCT enables fast, repeatable processing. It is available in widths up to 1200mm for output optimisation.
Canmakers are switching to TCCT, the world’s first packaging material to be developed using trivalent chromium-coating technology.
REACH-compliant, TCCT has been rigorously tested to prove canmaking and product performance. Its reliable performance means that TCCT is now the preferred option in manufacture of Tata Steel’s Protact® laminated packaging steel.
Key features of TCCT:
- ground-breaking trivalent chromium-coating enables reliable lacquering
- matches the performance levels of ECCS
- designed for easy adoption by canmakers, with no changes required to canmaking process
Tata Steel is a pioneer in steel packaging innovation, with a long-standing commitment to developing breakthrough technologies that shape the future of the industry.
In anticipation of changing legislation, in response to customers’ evolving requirements, and with a strong commitment to employee safety, Tata Steel began researching a tin-free steel that eliminates the use of Chromium VI. After many years of development, this resulted in TCCT (Trivalent Chromium Coated Technology), a REACH-compliant material that replaces traditional ECCS.
Protact incorporates the REACH compliant TCCT substrate and represents a complete revolution in steel packaging with many benefits over traditional lacquered ETP and ECCS.
Investment in high-capacity production line
Tata Steel’s investment in a dedicated high-capacity film making, film lamination, and TCCT production line will mean that canmakers can simplify their own production process, cutting out all steps associated with lacquering and curing. Tata Steel’s new production line will be operational from 2025 with the capacity to deliver with a width up to of 1220mm
