As we round up our Founder’s Day fundraising activities, the total amount raised across Tata Steel UK reaches well over £25,000 which will benefit cancer charities and good causes up and down the country.
Founder’s Day was a great success, bringing colleagues together again with a host of activities taking place across the UK.
Commenting on the amazing successes of the day, Chief Operating Officer Rajesh Nair said:
“The fundamental driving force for Tata Group is to be at the service of society. It's not just about the celebration of Founder’s Day, but it’s also about contributing to society.
“All the sites across Tata Steel UK have been involved in doing something for this society on this day. In some sense, it's like being back in India where we have a huge celebration on 3rd March across Tata Group.”
Employees celebrated the birth of Jamsetji Tata through raffles, bake sales, parachute jumps, cold water dips and inclusive sporting events, many of which took place in the communities close to site.
The sky was the limit for two employees, as Caitlin in Catnic challenged herself to a parachute jump, which raised nearly £500 for the Elite Performance Competition Team. Gareth in Trostre will also be skydiving this summer, raising money for charities that support people with PTSD. Good luck Gareth!
A big thank you to colleagues in Corby, who rallied together for a Founder’s Day bake sale. A total of £1,332.80 going to Corby Mind is the icing on the cake.
Leanne McMullen, Lead HR Advisor at Corby said:
“I would like to thank everybody who donated cakes, bought cakes and made monetary donations. Special thanks also go to our Mental Health First Aiders. The day was a huge success.”
A special thanks to Steel and Slab team in Port Talbot who raised an incredible £16,000 and counting, from their inclusion sports event at Tata Sports and Social Club, with support from our contractor partners Runtech and significant donations from JES and Darlow Lloyd
Money raised will support initiatives and individuals in the community, including Margam Stags, Port Talbot Panthers and Olivia Finch’s fight, a young girl in Port Talbot seeking treatment for Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.
The Procurement team in Port Talbot were all hands of deck as they took on a cold-water dip at Aberavon Beach. They raised a total of £4,634 for LATCH, the Welsh children’s cancer charity. A tremendous effort!
Justine Welsh, Sourcing & Contract Life Cycle Manager who braved the cold-water dip said:
“Having done a dip for the first-time last year in aid of “The Cold Truth”, it was great to get back in the water to raise money again for charity.
We managed to get a few new dippers to join us this year and it was also the first time many of the team had seen each other in person for a long time, making it a special celebratory day.”
