Zeremis describes Tata Steel's journey from the present to cleaner and zero-emission steel production. Zeremis is an umbrella brand under which we will launch many cleaner steel products in the coming years. The first of these is Zeremis Carbon Lite. 

The aim is zero-emission steel, Zeremis Carbon Lite is the first stop on that long journey. With Zeremis Carbon Lite, our customers can reduce the calculated carbon emissions of the steel used in their products today. 

Zeremis® Carbon Lite is a so-called mass-balanced solution. Carbon Lite works on the basis of the impact of the emission reduction measures already taken by the Tata Steel IJmuiden steel mill compared to the average European steel production emissions. Those savings are added up and the CO₂ emissions saved are placed in a carbon bank. The savings are validated and certified by the impartial body Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Third-party certification ensures the accuracy of the emissions and controls any errors. The approach has been endorsed by a number of NGOs and environmental organisations because it is not designed to increase the company's profits, but to support and accelerate the investment needs arising from changes in production. 

Certificates can be created for any material already produced at IJmuiden and are order specific. The customer can therefore determine the amount of CO₂ emissions generated by the steel they use. DNV closely monitors and controls the sale and transfer of the certificates and the proceeds from their sale are reinvested in the green transition which further accelerates the start of cleaner steel production.
