Low-carbon steel developments
Through our Zeremis® propositions, we support packaging customers in progressing their decarbonisation journey. Zeremis focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions across the entire steel production chain. Through increased use of scrap, energy efficiency, and new ways if working. By offering lower-emission steel solutions and CO₂-reduced product options, we enable you to significantly cut the carbon footprint of our steel for your packaging while maintaining performance and quality. This allows you to meet tightening regulatory requirements and accelerate further carbon reduction projects at Tata Steel Nederland.
Closed-loop scrap solutions
For customers within economical proximity of our steel plant, our scrap buy-back solutions enable a closed material loop. We can collect steel scrap from your packaging production processes and reintegrate it as high-quality recycled content in our steelmaking operations. This not only reduces waste, but also secures a reliable and circular material flow that benefits both partners.
Proven recyclability of steel packaging
We need solutions that reduce waste, keep materials in use, and support a more circular economy. For packaging, that means moving further and faster towards true circularity. Steel is already part of that solution. As a permanent material, it can be recycled again and again without loss of quality. In fact, with an average recycling rate of 84%, steel packaging is one of the most recycled packaging materials in Europe, playing a proven role in closing the loop and keeping valuable resources in circulation.
Innovation in coatings and safety
We continuously innovate to improve both the safety and sustainability of steel packaging through advanced product solutions such as Protact® and TCCT® (Tata Steel Chromium-Coated Technology). Protact® is a polymer-coated steel that eliminates the need for traditional lacquers, helping simplify manufacturing processes while reducing environmental impact. TCCT® offers a chromium-based alternative to electrolytic tinplate, supporting resource efficiency and regulatory compliance. Together, these solutions help customers transition to safer, more sustainable packaging materials without compromising on performance, protection, or design flexibility.
