Heat treatable steel
Tata Steel offers a choice of hot-rolled heat-treatable steels
Heat-treatable steels offer advantages across many applications. We exercise stringent control over chemical composition and production processes, resulting in a robust, consistent and reliable quality you can depend on.
The chemical composition of our boron manganese steel family makes it suitable for forming complex shapes. After a quench and temper step at the customer, the end product will gain its final hardness.
High-carbon steels are characterised by high levels of resistance, hardness and strength. This range is designed for parts which require reliable form stability during intensive use.

EN-Engineering-Product-Hot-Rolled-Heat treatable steel-Boron manganese Overview TSE
Tata Steel offers a choice of hot-rolled heat-treatable steel. Its chemical composition and the production processes we employ ensure robust, consistent products.
Manganese boron steel
Consistent formability combined with excellent strain hardening behaviour.
The 22MnB5, 26MnB5, 27MnB5, 27MnCrB5-2, 30Mn5, 30MnB5, 34MnB5 and 38MnB5 grades are hot-rolled, uncoated products that are primarily used for end products with complex shapes.
In ‘as-delivered’ condition the material is considered ‘soft’, enabling the forming of relatively difficult shapes. The final strength of the end product is usually provided during a heat treatment process at the customer, resulting in a longer life span. The manganese boron product range also features homogeneous material properties that enable consistent and predictable performance of the final component. The material is very clean, meaning the levels of impurities are carefully controlled, which helps with consistency in formability and weldability.
These grades are used in a variety of applications, such as harrow discs and plough points (Agriculture), twist beams and stabilisers (Automotive) tubes and centralisers (Oil & Gas). Because of the unique dimensions offered, these products can be processed very effectively and with limited yield loss through optimised nesting.
Feel free to contact us for more options in our MnB family such as other grades and chemistries, other dimensions or minimum order quantity.

Shape and dimensional tolerances
The specified values for wide strip do not apply to the uncropped ends of the coil (‘head’ and ‘tail’).
The length of these uncropped ends is calculated using the following formula:
length (in metres) = 90/nominal thickness (in mm), with a maximum of 20 metres.
If required, this part of the coil can be removed, however an additional cost may be charged for this.

EN-EngineeringAutomotive-Product-Hot-rolled-All grades Shape and dimensional tolerances TSE

The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.

Tolerances in mm for wide strip and slit wide strip
The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.
Edge camber
The deviation from the edge over a length of 5000 mm:
• with mill edges, no more than 20 mm
• with trimmed edges, no more than 15 mm
Flatness
Requirements as regards flatness can be agreed at the time of enquiry.

EN-Engineering-Product-Hot-Rolled-Heat treatable steel-Steel strapping 30Mn5 Overview TSN
Tata Steel offers a choice of hot-rolled heat-treatable steel. Its chemical composition and the production processes we employ ensure robust, consistent products.
Manganese boron steel
Steel strapping
30Mn5 is a dedicated chemistry developed to produce straps and supplied as coil in hot rolled pickled.
Material is cold rolled at the customer to the required strip thickness, slitted to produce steel straps and heat treated (in some occasions also painted) to achieve the target microstructure and mechanical properties.
The application requires medium to high tensile strength, good ductility and work hardening.

Tolerances in mm for wide strip and slit wide strip
The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.
Edge camber
The deviation from the edge over a length of 5000 mm:
• with mill edges, no more than 20 mm
• with trimmed edges, no more than 15 mm

Tolerances in mm for wide strip and slit wide strip
The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.
Edge camber
The deviation from the edge over a length of 5000 mm:
• with mill edges, no more than 20 mm
• with trimmed edges, no more than 15 mm

Tolerances in mm for wide strip and slit wide strip
The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.
Edge camber
The deviation from the edge over a length of 5000 mm:
• with mill edges, no more than 20 mm
• with trimmed edges, no more than 15 mm

The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.

EN-EngineeringAutomotive-Product-Hot-rolled-All grades Shape and dimensional tolerances TSE

The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.
