A new £1.4 million Construction and Automotive Green Technology Centre at Kidderminster College offers students state-of-the-art facilities, and access to the latest technology, enabling them to gain practical experience and knowledge in a stimulating environment.
Developed in direct response to the growing shortage of construction and automotive skills within the Wyre Forest and wider Worcestershire region, the new centre will place green technology and sustainability at its heart, through teaching modern methods of construction and other skills training to accommodate the rapidly changing automotive and construction sectors.
The building project demanded several factors: speed of construction to enable the new facilities to open on time for the new academic year, sustainable energy efficient products in line with the buildings use, high acoustic performance to minimise external spill given the nature of the work on site, and a clean, aesthetically pleasing finish for students to enjoy.
Cat Lewis, Principal of Kidderminster College said, “The facility will provide a cutting-edge space for students to learn using the latest equipment and modern construction methods and will enable us to put green skills and sustainability at the centre of our curriculum.”
The Trisomet® 120 panels specified for the walls offer a high acoustic performance and a thermally excellent U-value of 0.16. All Trisomet® products are backed by EN 15804 type III Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s). Both of these factors support the achievement of BREEAM or LEED ratings.
As a one fix component, the panel’s build consistency enables speed of installation on both walls and roof, which contributed to the achievement of the tight build schedule.
The designers opted for a clean grey palate to enhance the modern design, using an R32 profile in Anthracite for the feature canopy entrance, Trisomet® 120 steel insulated panels in Goosewing Grey for the walls and Trisomet® 80mm Pure Grey for the roofing. The Colorcoat® pre-finished steel on all Trisomet® panels is covered by the Confidex® guarantee. The HPS200 Ultra finish selected carries a 40-year guarantee including cut edges for the weatherside of commercial and industrial buildings.
