Mechanical Engineers

Software Engineers

As a Computer engineer, you will use your knowledge of application computers, software, control and instrumentation technology to maintain our plants’ optimum performance. It is mission-critical work, ensuring that operational standards remain consistently high, that downtime is minimised and that efficiency is maximised. You must be able to provide expert support, analysing performance, specifying improvements, adjusting control systems and ensuring compliance. You’ll also be able to investigate issues, generate solutions and promote a culture of continuous improvement in our machinery use and maintenance.
Civil / Structural Engineers
Our Civil and Structural Engineers play a crucial role in the life cycle management of our company’s civil and structural assets. You will specify, design, build, install, commission and maintain a varying range of civil and structural assets, ensuring that high performance is maintained and that the highest safety standards are met.

Chemical Engineers
Our two-year graduate programme offers an excellent opportunity for you to apply and develop your academic qualifications in a practical, real world setting. It offers a mix of on the job experience and practice-based learning, backed up by a thorough programme of formal training.
You must have at least a 2:1 Degree in a Chemical related subject.
Our Technical function ensures that our products meet and exceed our customers’ exacting needs, both now and in the future. The roles are varied but the challenge is always the same: to develop and improve every grade of steel, so that it’s ready to meet the challenges of every possible application, from electrical use to aerospace and beyond. Technical excellence is at the heart of everything we do, underpinning areas including quality assurance, laboratory management, non-destructive testing, metallurgical investigations and supply chain.
Whilst there’s plenty of scope for independent working, you could just as easily find yourself in a customer-facing role, working alongside Commercial and Supply chain colleagues, liaising with Research & Development, or collaborating with our Operational teams. Whichever remit you favour, you will need highly developed analytical skills, an aptitude for problem-solving, the ability to influence those around you, and first-rate project management and organisational skills. These skills will be supported by an interest in science, a desire to learn and innovate, and the drive to achieve results in often challenging situations.
The Manufacturing function plays a vital role in keeping our sites running smoothly. You will work closely with colleagues in and beyond Manufacturing, ensuring that plant performance is optimised and that production targets are achieved. It involves operating at pace, with precision and to accurate technical guidelines. Skill, expertise and dedication are critical.
Your motivation will always be to ensure our customers’ requirements are achieved on time, every time. You will be involved with all elements associated with Manufacturing, including health & safety, quality, customer focus and production efficiency. Supply Chain
Tata Steel is among the top ten steel manufacturers in the World. We operate in 26 countries, with a commercial presence in over 50 and operations across six continents. Within Europe, Tata Steel is the second largest steel maker, producing long and strip products for the construction, automotive, packaging and engineering markets, as well as others worldwide. An operation on this scale demands an agile, responsive supply chain capable of managing – and anticipating – the complex demands of the business and the market it serves.
Our Supply Chain Management team tends the relationships and controls the flow of materials, information and resources throughout our network of upstream and downstream organisations. The function is responsible for order & production planning, scheduling, logistics & transport, order management, data and reporting, managing external service
providers as well as involvement and leadership within cross-functional continuous improvement and business transformation projects.
Commercial
Our commercial professionals work across our entire business, working closely with colleagues to align products closely to customer needs. Functioning as the link between the customer and the supply chain, they galvanise departments from manufacturing to distribution into meeting our clients’ needs, via a unique ability to listen, interpret and

The Commercial division is split into three distinct areas: Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. We’re looking for commercially-minded, client-focused individuals in each of these functions. We’ll support you as you get to grips with our business and hone your sales and marketing practice, developing into the kind of future leader who can drive our business forward.
Our Steelpark distribution site in Wolverhampton is a vital hub for the provision of steel processing service offers to the UK retail sector. The site is home to four Tata Steel Distribution businesses that supply our products to sectors including Automotive, Construction, Lifting & Excavating, and Office Furniture/Enclosure. Steelpark also boasts strong Commercial teams, whose role is to identify target markets within the UK to which Tata Steel products can be marketed.

Group Environment
Our engineers operate on a scale and precision not even imagined by many other sectors. This is an opportunity to play a crucial role in the life cycle management of our unique equipment. We want you to understand how Group Environment fits into and benefits our broader business, so you’ll also complete placements beyond the Group Environment function. This could be on any one of a multitude of key stakeholder sites, businesses or projects, such as in a manufacturing unit, Technical department, or Business Improvement team. In an organisation of our size, the possibilities are considerable.
As a Human Factors graduate you will join the Safety, Health, and Environment department where you will work alongside the Human Factors specialist and other process safety specialists to provide an expert service to the whole of the business in the area of Human Factors. This includes, human error reduction, task analyses, procedures improvement, alarm handling, incident investigation and many other Human Factors topics. The focus will be on minimising human error in Tata Steel's safety critical tasks.

Communications
The Communications team are responsible for Internal Communications and Community Relations for the whole of the UK and some sites in Europe. The student will support Public Relations activity such as community events and internal achievements, helping to publicise these externally through local print, broadcast and social media. You will work with various community partners across the UK to maximise benefits for Tata steel, its employees and community stakeholders. For these activities, the student will also be responsible for procurement and use of branded merchandise.
Procurement
Broadly speaking, our Procurement team manages our external spend with a wide range of partners and suppliers. We work with a network of over 5,000 suppliers globally, covering an extensive range of goods and services such as raw materials, energy, fleet and logistics services, IT services, and professional services.

Our aim is always to inspire and drive sustainable relationships with our partners, as well as through our own organisation – so our Procurement professionals need strong communication, relationship/project management and negotiation skills. Finance
In a complex, multi-national business like Tata Steel, a world-class Finance function is vital. Our Finance Business Partners are spread throughout the group and their expert advice guides and informs strategic and operational decision-making across all of our functions.
We have in-house specialists operating across every financial discipline, including Business Reporting & Planning, Reporting & Group Control, Taxation, Internal Audit, Treasury and Mergers & Acquisitions. As a member of our Graduate Programme you’ll have the opportunity to gain experience in at least one of these specialist areas, as well as building up in-depth experience of the broader Finance function. Short-listing Criteria
Short-listing will be conducted via the following criteria:

Stage 2 – Assessments
Should you be successful following the short-listing of the application forms, you may be invited via email to complete a series of assessments, this may be in-person at our sites or on-line. Not all placement vacancies will be required to take assessments.
You will only be able to complete the assessments once. If you are invited to take on-line assessments, please make sure you have done the practice assessments before completing the real thing. Please ensure you are in a quiet room with no distractions.
Should you be successful and invited to undertake the assessments, it is essential that you complete these assessments within the given timescale. Following completion of online or in-person assessments, candidates should be informed of the outcome within two weeks via email.
Stage 3 – Assessment Centre
Should you be successful at the assessment stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre. This will be in-person and will take place at one of our sites.
Assessment centres will usually consist of an interview, presentation and a group exercise.
Assessment centres are a great opportunity to visit our sites and meet employees, that hopefully will soon become your work colleagues.
The interview part of the assessment centre will be competency based, strength based and function specific. You will receive an email with the time and date of your assessment centre. Alternative arrangements will only be made in extenuating circumstances.
We aim to provide feedback within 7 working days following your assessment centre. If you have not heard back after that, please feel free to contact the talent acquisition team for an update.

Stage 4 - Offer
If you are successful, we will call you to make a verbal job offer, this will be made to you within 1-2 weeks of your assessment centre.
